A General Update on Things

Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of communication within the past few weeks, things have been very hectic lately. I have a ton of stuff in the works, but for now, here’s just a general, small update on a couple of projects…

Post-production is coming along fairly well. I’ve been leaving most of the editing up to Sophia thus far and she’s doing a killer job. The assembly edit (basically all the scenes in order with little to no editing) that we created a couple weeks ago clocked in at 1hr 47min, so I’m estimating the final film will be around 1hr 40min, give or take. We’ve also been doing a bit of re dubbing for a few scenes, which is a ton of fun. Except not really.

In any case, it’s been really exciting seeing everything finally come together, and I can’t wait for everyone to see the finished film.

The film will also be officially receiving an original score, composed by the UK-based duo Paul Hynes and Hugo Meredith-Hardy. An example of their work can be heard here.

Unfortunately, there’s still no date set for a screening of the film, but I’ll be sure keep you posted once there is one.

I’m also planning to post a production diary/post-mortem of the film within the next few weeks. It’ll detail essentially everything we did, how we did it, what went wrong, what went right, etc. It’ll also contain behind-the-scenes footage and pictures, so be on the lookout for that!

Also, if you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you can view it below:

Be sure to tell us what you think!

In other news…

There’s a new feature-length movie in the works – it’s a psychological horror film titled The Shadows Follow (formerly Till Midnight). Written and directed by Davionne Gooden, the film follows a workaholic teenager who cuts herself off from the rest of the world in order to finish her novel before a self-imposed deadline. But as she gets closer to completion, she has difficulty separating fiction from reality as the horrific figures from her story come to haunt her in the real world.

The film’s inspirations include The Shining, Repulsion, The Babadook, The Haunting and Black Swan, with more of an emphasis on atmosphere and suspense rather than gore and ever-annoying jumpscare.

Filming is slated to begin next week on Tuesday, July 12 in Shaker Heights, Ohio, with the lead role being played by YoungArts presidential scholar Lauryn Hobbs.

Lauryn Hobbs, who will be playing the lead role of “Jamie McConnell”

Also joining the cast is Hannah Modlin and Isabella Ilijasic, returning from Roxanne in Wonderland and Absolutely Essential, respectively. Additionally, Saeesha Pimplikar and Sheila Scanlon will be joining the crew as 1st assistant director and 2nd assistant director/makeup designer, respectively. Todd Goldstein of LaunchHouse will also serve as executive producer. (also, if you’re in the Cleveland area, be sure to visit LaunchHouse’s new space at Alpha Park! Details are on its website.)

Production photos and stills will be posted daily as filming progresses, so be sure to stay tuned for that!

Damn, it’s been awhile since this has been updated. My bad!

Anyway, development has been going relatively smoothly, if not slow (mainly due to Roxanne and Till Midnight). I’m really liking how the game is turning out, though, and Steam has been a pleasure to work with thus far. Due to my somewhat perfectionist nature, I’ve been making a bunch of changes and improvements to the story, engine and gameplay, but I’m pretty much satisfied with what I’ve got now. Previously, only Thalia and Tessa were going to be playable, but I decided to nix Tessa and have the player use three characters in battle as opposed to only two.

Don’t worry – Tessa is still very much in the game! She’s just been reduced to a non-playable role.

The two new playable characters are clones of Thalia, named Aqua and Jade. I’ll go in-depth later as to why this change was made, but basically it came down to simply improving combat and providing more strategic opportunities.

As for the game’s release date, I’m hoping to have it out by the end of this month. I’ll know a concrete day in the next week or so, so I’ll be sure to keep you guys posted. For now, here’s some new screenshots!

Once again, apologies for the delay and thanks for your patience. More info to come soon, so please stay tuned!

Other Things:

  • In addition to doing a filming post-mortem/production diary of Roxanne in Wonderland, I’ll also be doing one for Absolutely Essential (my first feature film), Behind the Mask, She Dreams Elsewhere and The Shadows Follow. No ETA for when those will be up though, so stay tuned!
  • I’m planning on redesigning the site pretty soon, but again, there’s no ETA on when that’s going to happen (it’s fairly low on the priority list if you couldn’t tell already)

Preeeeeeeety sure I’m forgetting to include something here… ah, well. I’ll save for another update. Or for Twitter. I don’t know. I need to sleep…

Again, thank you guys so much for the continued support and inspiration over the last couple of months. I really, really appreciate it. Keep being awesome!
