New Screenshots! Updated Menu and “Party”

Hey guys! Happy March! I’ve got some new stuff to share with you guys, so let’s get right into it!

First off, I redid the main menu earlier this week, and I really like how it turned out. I dunno, what do you think?

For reference, here’s what the old one looked like:

If you look at the two closely, you might notice another major change – there’s only six options on the new menu, as opposed to seven on the old one. That’s because I decided to disable difficulty switching at any time. I think that some people would abuse the system and switch to a lower, less rewarding difficulty when they came across a tough part of the game instead of actually trying to play through it, robbing them of that satisfaction of actually putting in effort and overcoming a challenge by themselves.

The original six difficulty options are still there, though! You just select it at the beginning of the game, but it stays locked for the duration of the playthrough. You can, however, switch difficulties again if you start New Game Plus mode (unlocked after beating the game once). So, y’know, do what thou wilt. What do you guys think? Any thoughts on this?

I’ve also got some new screenshots of the level “Party”. Compared to the other areas in the game, this one is a lot more exploration-based, requiring you to navigate a huge mansion filled with characters and events to come across.

The first screen and level starting point.

The mansion entrance. Still a WIP.

A hallway on the 1st floor.

The kitchen. Everyone pictured in this shot is severely underpaid. And by underpaid, I mean they’re not paid at all.

I’ve really enjoyed working on this level, it’s actually probably my favorite in the game. It’s very much inspired by “Lady Boyle’s Last Party” from Dishonored (which the best mission in the game, IMO) and “The Milkman Conspiracy” from Psychonauts (easily within my top 5 games of all time). It’s really funny, the characters are messed up, the amount of stuff you can find is ridiculous, and… yeah. I just love it SO much.

Also… DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO MAKE A GIGANTIC LEVEL WHERE VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING HAS FLAVOR TEXT? AND WHERE EVERYONE IN THE LEVEL HAS DIALOGUE THAT CHANGES AFTER EVERY LITTLE THING YOU DO? BECAUSE I KNOW. OH BOY, DO I KNOW. IT’S TOUGH, MAN. TIME CONSUMING. YOU FUCKERS BETTER APPRECIATE THAT SHIT.

So yeah. Can’t wait for y’all to play it.

I’ll have more updates soon, but in the meantime, enjoy the weekend! Thanks for stopping by!
